Who Are We?
About Us
We breed and raise German Shorthaired Pointers and Hungarian Vizslas — both exceptional dual-purpose breeds, equally suited as loyal family companions or keen, capable working gundogs. Highly intelligent and eager to please, they are just as happy relaxing by the fire as they are out in the field.
Located in the countryside of Swansea, South Wales, our Kennel Club–registered affix Tycwmdarrans is named after our family home. Our dogs enjoy extensive exercise areas, including a large half-acre paddock and 2½ acres of private woodland.
We are also conveniently situated just five minutes from Junction 46 of the M4, making visits easy and accessible.
My passion for animals began in childhood. By the 1980s I was keeping a wide variety of exotic species including meerkats, yellow, banded, and dwarf mongooses, agoutis, mara, and woodchucks. I later worked at Penscynor Wildlife Park in Neath until its closure in 1998, where I gained my City & Guilds Certificate in Zoo Animal Management.
I have been a local authority licensed breeder since 2013 and was involved in the Local Authority Enforcement Project working group for breeder licensing in 2023 with Monmouthshire Council.
Think Before You Buy: Why Only Licensed Breeders Should Be Trusted
Before bringing home a puppy, it is essential to do your research. Always buy from a local authority licensed breeder. Licensed breeders must meet strict welfare standards, are regularly inspected, and are held accountable — unlike unlicensed or illegal breeders who often operate in poor and unsafe conditions.
Puppy farms and unlicensed sellers frequently lure buyers with lower prices, false claims of Kennel Club registration, and certificates you will never actually see. What seems like a “bargain” can quickly become expensive if the puppy has untreated health issues, behavioural problems, or lacks early socialisation — leading to hundreds or even thousands in veterinary and training costs.
A recent case in Ceredigion saw eleven people — including a local councillor and a singer — charged in connection with an extensive illegal dog-breeding ring. Buyers were allegedly misled into believing they were purchasing puppies from a genuine family home. This case is an important reminder: appearances can be deceiving, and unlicensed breeding can be hidden behind carefully staged photos or fabricated stories.
Choosing a licensed, reputable breeder helps protect both puppies and buyers — ensuring that your new companion has been raised ethically, legally, and with the welfare standards every dog deserves.
