As a licensed breeder based in Swansea, South Wales, we specialise exclusively in Hungarian Vizslas and German Shorthaired Pointers — two intelligent, affectionate and versatile breeds known for their loyalty as family companions and their natural ability in the field.

Our location is extremely convenient for visitors, being just five minutes off the M4 corridor at Junction 46, making travel simple for families coming from across Wales, England and further afield.

At Cwmdarran, welfare comes first. Our dogs enjoy a large half-acre exercise paddock and 2½ acres of private woodland, providing the space, enrichment and natural environment essential for raising confident, well-balanced puppies.

Our Kennel Club–registered affix, Tycwmdarrans, is named after our family home, reflecting the personal care and hands-on involvement that goes into every litter we raise.

My background in animal care began in childhood and grew into a lifelong passion. During the 1980s I kept a wide range of exotic species including Meerkats, Yellow Banded and Dwarf Mongooses, Racoons, Agoutis, Mara and Woodchucks. I later worked at Penscynor Wildlife Park in Neath until its closure in 1998, gaining a City & Guilds Certificate in Zoo Animal Management.

Since 2013 I have been a Local Authority Licensed Breeder, and in 2023 I was invited to contribute to the Local Authority Enforcement Project working group for breeder licensing with Monmouthshire Council.

Before buying a puppy, it is essential to do your research.
Always choose a Local Authority Licensed Breeder. Licensed breeders are inspected regularly, must meet strict welfare standards, and are legally accountable — unlike unlicensed or illegal breeders, who often hide poor conditions behind staged photos or misleading stories.

Unlicensed breeders frequently:

• Offer “bargain” prices to secure quick sales

• Mislead buyers about Kennel Club registration

• Produce poorly socialised puppies

• Conceal health issues or poor living conditions

A cheap puppy can quickly become very expensive when unexpected veterinary bills or behavioural problems occur.

A recent case in Ceredigion — involving eleven defendants, including a local councillor and a singer — exposed a large-scale illegal breeding ring where buyers believed they were purchasing puppies from a genuine family home.
This case is a powerful reminder that appearances can be deceiving, and only licensed breeders offer the transparency and accountability needed to protect both puppies and buyers.
